• Question: Why did you decide to come on I'm an Engineer get me out of here?

      Hi Varvara!

      I got an email about ‘I’m an Engineer’ at work and thought it sounded interesting – getting to answer everyone’s juicy questions and tell them about my job.

      I know that when I chose to study engineering, I didn’t know much about the different types of engineering jobs that were out there, so it’s great that people can ask real engineers and learn about some of the cool stuff that they work on.

      How about you, what made you decide to visit the website? 🙂

    Hiya Varvara 🙂

    I’m very passionate about encouraging young people to consider engineering as a career as I absolutely love what I do and I never had a chance when I was younger to speak to real engineers to understand what they do and what they are like as people.

    Maybe the one young person who never thought engineering was for them has a change of heart through chatting / questioning me and the other AWESOME engineers on the “I’m an Engineer get me out of here!”

    Has using the website made you consider engineering as a career?

    I want to share my enthusiasm for engineering. I have had a fascinating journey and experiences through my engineering career and I am keen that we should have continuing generations of engineers in this country and world-wide. Very little in society occurs or functions without the input of engineers at some point. Just think about the basics of life; there is very detailed engineering behind: clean water treatment and waste-water treatment and disposal, electricity generation and distribution, Natural Gas production and distribution, food production, processing and delivery. Also think of all the things that we enjoy but, especially in these strange times, do not absolutely need: air transportation, outdoor theme parks, football stadia etc. Engineering is everywhere and solving the myriad of engineering problems is great fun.

    Because I want to bring on the next generation of engineers. There is a shortage in the industry and we need clever people to become engineers and drive the economy forward. I also have a great passion for engineering I started getting involved in it when I was 16 and I am now 37.

    Hey Varvara
    I got an email from my STEM network where they mentioned it and I thought it sounded quite interesting. The whole point of me becoming a STEM ambassador was to inform younger generations about STEM’s different paths and share my experience so far so I thought this would be a great way to do this.
