I am working on the A9 Dualling Programme for Transport Scotland. I have worked on various parts of this job since 2015. If you have a look online you will find lots of interesting information. I also worked on site for 1 year at the Kincraig to Dalraddy section which was the first part to be constructed as part of this project.

I am working as part of the team that maintains and repairs all the structures on the M25 motorway. There are 2500 of them altogether on this motorway alone!

I am working on designing and manufacturing safe screens for companies that are starting to reopen with social distancing measures in place. Not my usual style of design work but we have had to adapt as a company to keep in the market and manufacturing and making the business money.

At the moment I’m working on the design of a quay to allow vessels and ships transporting components for wind turbines to dock and load/unload their cargo. The project is at an early concept design stage, so I have to consider different structural forms and materials.

      Hey MattiE,
I am currently working on the innovation and engineering side of our business and looking to deliver a new type of constructing foundations. It is super exciting because for the last 50-60 years there has only been one way of doing this. But now, I am designing, managing and constructing this new foundation and looking to change the way the industry constructs these to make them more sustainable and efficient.

I am working on assessing the impact of melt anomalies in jet engines. When a component is manufactured, there are impurities in the alloy which represent a risk as they concentrate stress when the component is in operation. They can evolve into cracks. I run a series of algorithms to estimate the risk of having those anomalies in operation and we make sure it is below certain threshold for safety.

When aircraft breakdown or have parts that need replacing they need to go to a repair shop (a bit like an aircraft mechanic), these are generally called Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facilities.

I work in one of these in Singapore and I am trying to get new business into the area so we can work on even more new products. It’s a bit like, if you have a specialist BMW garage but you need to have the skills, equipment and approvals for Audi too.

There will be a lot more aircraft flying in Asia over the next 10-20 years, so very exciting place to be an aerospace engineer.
