I did my Degree Apprenticeship with GE Aviation in Gloucestershire. It was a 5 year course, studying at University part-time (1 day a week) whilst working for GE the remaining 4 days of the week. The company paid for all the tuition fees whilst also paying my salary. The Apprenticeship covered many other aspects such as additional training courses and areas for personal and professional development (such as IET membership). I was able to go into schools and run presentations and workshops on STEM subjects. I was also able to attend many of the large airshows around the country to engage with the general public and advertise the company (whilst enjoying the show). When not at Uni, I would be working on real projects, contributing towards the same projects as all the other engineers – helping to put some pretty cool planes into the sky. It was a fantastic training ground technically, professionally, and personally, and I would highly recommend it.
